The Backrooms are sometimes characterized as an infinite labyrinth of rooms, each with virtually identical yellowish walls, dirty carpet, buzzing fluorescent lights, and a dismal, repetitious ambiance. Some significant aspects frequently connected with the Backrooms are:

Endless, repetitive rooms: The rooms seem to continue on forever, with no obvious way out. Many persons who "fall" into the Backrooms express an overpowering sensation of being lost and unable to find a way out.

The smell: The rooms have a unique, unpleasant odor, which is sometimes characterized as moldy or reminiscent of we  Backrooms carpet.

Flickering lights: The lights in the backrooms are often damaged or flickering, which adds to the discomfort. The sound of the lights buzzing is supposed to get more irritating over time.

A feeling of abandonment: Nothing lives in the Backrooms. There are no other people, animals, or things visible, save for a few odd pieces of furniture or evidence of previous life, which never seem to explain anything.
